OpenToonz is a 2D animation software based on “Toonz”, originally developed by Digital Video S.p.A. in Italy, and customized by Studio Ghibli. In March 26, 2016, Dwango releases the Studio Ghibli version as open source, in cooperation with Digital Video and Studio Ghibli, under the name “OpenToonz”:
This software can be used by anyone free of charge, no matter whether the purpose of use is commercial or not.
This is available as an open source, so that users can modify its source code freely.
Ensuring continuity, Toonz Premium, a new commercial version of Toonz Harlequin is released by Digital Video.
